ALSDE-SES Lending Library
Alabama State Department of Education Special Education Services has collaborated with APTAT to provide a tremendous resource to support schools implementing assistive technology services for students.
The ALSDE-SES library is solely dedicated to providing schools with access to assistive technology designed for P-12 students to achieve their academic goals regardless of disability.Â
Devices from the ALSDE-SES library can be checked out:
- As part of a AT Consideration or AT Evaluation Process
- Provide a temporary accommodation
- Use while a device is being purchased or repaired
- For training purposes or professional learning

Frequently Asked Questions
- Who is eligible to borrow a device?
The ALSDE-SES library is only for schools that are supported by the Alabama State Department of Education. Those wishing to borrow devices must complete the device request form to ensure their account allows them access.
- How long is the loan period?
Most loans are for up to 60 calendar days. If you need more time, you can ask for an extension – just reach out to the APTAT team.
- Is there a fee to borrow a device?
No – no fee at all. Borrowing is completely free.
- How do I request a device?
Fill out our online request form. Once we receive it, we’ll follow up to confirm availability and delivery or pick-up arrangements.
- Can I borrow more than one device at a time?
Yes – especially if you’re comparing similar devices or testing multiple solutions. We recommend limiting your requests to no more than 6 items. Just let us know your needs in the request form.
- What types of devices are available?
We offer a wide range of Assistive Technology, from reading supports for students with learning disabilities to high end AAC devices with eye gaze for students with complex physical needs and everything in between. You can explore current inventory here.
- How will I get the device?
You can choose to pick up your device or have it shipped to you. We’ll work with you to arrange the best option.
- How do I return the device?
You should return the device in good condition either by scheduled drop-off or by mailing it back.
- What if the device breaks or doesn’t work properly?
If a device arrives damaged or stops working during your loan period, let us know right away. We’ll guide you on what to do next.
