Date:

Location:

Lakeshore Foundation

Who:
AAC Users Ages 13–19 + Up to 2 Caregivers

Camp CHAT is Alabama’s first immersive camp experience designed specifically for teens who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). This two-day event brings together youth ages 13–19 and their caregivers for a weekend of communication, creativity, and connection.

The mission for CAMP CHAT is to empower teen AAC users by creating engaging, real-world communication opportunities that reflect the social, educational, and vocational experiences of adolescence and young adulthood.

Campers will:

  • Practice AAC in everyday, natural settings
  • Build confidence, independence, and identity
  • Connect with peers and share their voices in a supportive community

Caregivers will participate in parallel learning sessions, gaining practical strategies to support AAC use at home, in school, and throughout daily life.

Sessions will focus on topics such as self-advocacy, decision-making, turn-taking, and navigating social interactions using AAC.

Registration fees:

  • $235 per camper – includes one teen AAC user and one caregiver.
  • Fee covers all camp activities, materials, housing, and most meals.
  • Add a second caregiver for $30. (Maximum of 2 caregivers per camper.)
